In late October and early November 2025, Hue experienced one of the most devastating floods in decades, second only to the historic flood of 1999. Days of heavy rain led to the highest rainfall ever recorded within 24 hours, causing all major rivers to exceed level-3 flood warnings. The disaster resulted in 37 deaths and widespread destruction of homes, farmland, and livestock across the city.
According to official reports, two children tragically drowned — one primary school student and one 5-year-old child. These heartbreaking losses underline the urgent need for water safety education and survival skills for children, especially in Central Vietnam where floods and storms occur every year.
A POWERFUL LESSON AFTER THE FLOOD
After this tragedy, there is one critically important outcome: no child drowned in areas of Hue City where the “Swimming For Safety (SFS)” project is implemented. This result clearly demonstrates that survival swimming lessons and water safety education are effective, practical, and life-saving, even during extreme flood events.
For years, SFS and Hue Help have worked closely with local communities to equip children with:
- Survival swimming skills
- Drowning prevention knowledge
- Flood and water safety awareness
We firmly believe that every skill learned today can save a child’s life tomorrow.

Although the floodwaters have been over, many families in Hue are still facing devastating losses and have no means to recover on their own. Families urgently need support to rebuild their lives, especially through: livestock replacement, seeds & farming tools, and basic household essentials.
